Lamborghini Murciélago - 219 Mph

Of all super exotic sportscars in the world, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. has the best of breed. One model in particular, the Murciélago LP640, is in my opinion, the single best looking street-drivable “car” on the planet. Although the LP640 will set you back a little over $300,000, the 6 speed, paddle-shifting monster can propel you at a documented 219Mph.
The video below runs 4:51. If you have the time, watch the whole thing. Listen to the way the beast sounds as it passes the cameraman. Three runs are made, each faster than the next. The LP640 finally tops out at 219 Mph. 219, that is 84 Mph FASTER than I have pushed my STi. Then again, my STi is also 1/9th the price of an LP640.
According to this ABC News article, Robert Simyar, a dentist from Phoenix Arizona owns the vehicle. Who knows if he is the driver or not, but if you owned a Lamborghini, how many people would you allow to take it up to 219 MPH? None? That’s what I thought as well. The sheer fact that these vehicles run ~$300,000 means that there are very few on the streets when compared to a Dodge Viper, or a even a Plymouth Prowler. Here are a few images of wrecked LP640s. Not your everyday occurrence by a long-shot.
I’ve always wondered what insurance rates are like for Murciélagos.
